Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 10, 2026

This policy describes how MacPicks handles information when you browse the site or share your picks.

Information we handle

When you sign in, we receive an account identifier, email address, and available display name from the sign-in provider. We store profile details and contributions you submit, such as your handle, bio, app picks, replacement stories, and comparison votes. Hosting and sign-in providers may also process technical information, such as IP addresses and request logs, to deliver and protect the service.

Public profiles and picks

Published profiles and their picks can be viewed by other people and indexed by search engines. Your sign-in email is not displayed as a public email field, but a display name may initially be based on it; review your profile before publishing. Avoid including private information in public content.

How information is used

We use information to sign you in, maintain your profile and picks, display public content, operate comparisons, prevent misuse, and respond to requests. Service providers, including Google for sign-in and Cloudflare for hosting, database, and file storage, process information needed to deliver these functions. We may disclose information when legally required.

App submissions and content activity

No account is required to submit an app. App submissions, supporting materials and contact details are stored privately for editorial review. Contact details are used to process submissions, limit repeated submissions and follow up when needed; they are not published as app information. Unsent drafts are saved in your browser so they survive refresh, together with a private token for uploaded-image previews. Uploaded icons and covers stay private during review; selected icons may become public when an app is listed. To limit upload abuse, we store a secret-keyed daily network summary rather than the original IP address. We count comparison visits, candidate clicks, website clicks and submissions by day and content. These aggregate counters do not store visitor identifiers, emails, IP addresses or submission text.

Cookies, storage, and external sites

A language-preference cookie remembers your chosen language for up to one year. Local browser storage remembers app-pick selections on that device. The sign-in and hosting services may use additional storage needed for their operation. You can clear cookies and local storage in your browser, although preferences or sign-in state may be lost. External links and remotely hosted images connect to other providers, whose privacy policies apply.

Your choices and retention

You can edit your public profile and remove its picks through the site. Deleting a profile removes its profile, picks, and replacement records from the application database; it does not automatically delete your sign-in identity or all other records. We retain other information as needed to operate and protect the service or meet legal obligations. Search-engine caches and third-party copies may persist after public content is removed.
